Kanpur Woman Kidnapped from Gym, Murdered and Buried Near DM Residence
A tragic turn of events unfolded over the weekend as the wife of a businessman, kidnapped four months ago from Green Park in Civil Lines, was found murdered. The remains of Ekta Gupta, 32, were discovered buried within the premises of the Officers Club in the District Magistrate (DM) compound on VIP Road. The alleged perpetrator, a gym trainer named Vimal Soni, has been apprehended by the Kotwali police.
Soni’s arrest took place on Saturday, following a confession in which he admitted to murdering Ekta and burying her body. In response to the confession, police officials, accompanied by a forensic team, swiftly arrived at the scene and initiated an excavation, leading to the recovery of the victim’s remains around 12:30 AM.
Ekta was reported missing on June 24, after she left her home in the Gopal Vihar Binni Villa Society to visit the Green Park Stadium for her regular workout. Her husband, Rahul Gupta, filed a complaint with the Kotwali police, alleging that Soni had lured his wife away after administering a narcotic substance mixed with a protein shake.
During questioning, Soni revealed the circumstances surrounding Ekta’s death. He claimed that following an argument related to her impending arranged marriage, he attacked her in a fit of rage, ultimately leading to her death inside his vehicle. He then transported her body to the DM compound and buried it, a chilling revelation that highlights the gruesome nature of the crime.
Initially, the police were criticized for their handling of the case after discovering Soni’s vehicle—a car registered under the name of a third party, Shoaib—on June 25, just a day after Ekta disappeared. The vehicle contained various incriminating items, including ropes and a SIM tray, which led investigators to suspect that both individuals had obtained new SIM cards before going missing. Despite these findings, the case went cold until the sudden arrest of Soni brought new developments to light.
Investigators are now probing potential motives for the murder, including the disappearance of significant amounts of cash and jewelry that were reported missing around the time of Ekta’s abduction. Rahul Gupta had previously expressed concerns for his wife’s safety, fearing that the missing valuables could be linked to her disappearance.
The authorities are also exploring the possibility that Ekta intended to sever ties with Soni, which could have triggered the violent confrontation. Soni, however, has denied any allegations of a romantic relationship with Ekta.
The case has raised serious questions about the security of the DM compound, a location typically regarded as highly secure, and how a crime of such severity could be perpetrated there. The incident has drawn the attention of local authorities and the public alike, as they seek answers in this shocking case.
As investigations continue, the police remain focused on gathering evidence and uncovering the full circumstances surrounding this tragic crime.
